PLASTIC FABRICATORS/WOODCRAFTING      
$32.05/hr
  • All personnel in this group shall be graduates of high school or GED equivalence.
  • Two (2) years of experience after achieving journeyman status as a plastic fabricator/wood crafting. Journeyman’s level of skill is developed from both formal training and work experience. The term Journeyman is specifically defined as a term applied to a worker who has completed a specified training program as an APPRENTICE MASTER TITLE (any industry) in learning a trade or craft, or can give written proof of five years of qualifying experience for such trade or craft.
  • Ship maintenance and repair experience of 2 or more years working on U.S. Naval vessels.
  • May be required to work in areas where lead is present; therefore, personnel must be medically qualified to work with or around lead.
  • Must be knowledgeable in how to properly dispose of hazardous waste generated.
  • Workers must be physically able to install deck tile, ceramic tile, epoxies, ablative tile, and formica/plastic fabrication work.
  • Ability to safely operate an electric router and identify the various types of electric router bits and attachments.
  • Ability to safely operate an plastic laminates and articulate the purpose of the plastic lamination on the base material or core, to include familiarity with standard lengths and widths of plastic laminators.
  • Ability to install and remove plastic laminates and fabricate, repair, and install various fiberglass reinforced or plastic parts (e.g., small boat repair, submarine sail and fairings and SONAR/ RADOME repair).
  • Ability to build, repair, and alter all wooden items aboard ship and in the shop,including but not limited to woodwork connected with boat storage, dry-docking, layout and shoring, construct, alter and repair cabinets, closets, desks, gangways, railings, Jacob’s ladders, toggles, etc.
  • Ability to cut and shape lumber to rough or finished form.
  • Ability to build, convert, alter, and repair wooden boats, floats and pontoons.
  • Contaminated clothing shall be controlled in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.1025(g) and NAVSEA Standard Item 009-03.
  • Special Hull Treatment and/or Mold In Place experience is desired.
     
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Grinder Safety – 29 CFR 1910.215, Abrasive Wheel Machinery; ANSI STD B7.1-1988, Safety Requirements for the Use, Care, and Protection of Abrasive Wheels; ANSI STD B186.1-1984, Safety Code for Portable Air Tools
  • Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromates and Beryllium– Trained and qualified to work in an environment where heavy metals exist (e.g., lead, arsenic, cadmium, chromates, beryllium), in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local standards and requirements for shipyard work
  • Negative Pressure Respirator - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134
  • Confined Space Safety - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B
  • Man Made Vitreous Fibers - Trained and qualified to work in an environment where man made vitreous fibers exist, in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local standards and requirements for shipyard work.
     
     
    •MUST be capable of obtaining a fully Adjudicated DoD Clearance. Candidates with a current fully adjudicated DoD Clearance (RED Badge ONLY) will be given priority for hiring. MUST be a US Citizen
