Job Description

  • All personnel in this group shall be graduates of high school or GED equivalence.
  • Two (2) years of experience after achieving journeyman status as a shipwright. Journeyman’s level of skill is developed from both formal training and work experience. The term Journeyman is specifically defined as a term applied to a worker who has completed a specified training program as an APPRENTICE MASTER TITLE (any industry) in learning a trade or craft, or can give written proof of four or five years of qualifying experience for such trade or craft.
  •  Ship maintenance and repair experience of 2 or more years working on U.S. Naval vessels.
  • Ability to lay out, build, and position keel blocks for ships in dry dock, layout, erect and dismantle scaffolding for ships, and build, install, and repair heavy wooden structures and support for marine equipment.
  • Ability to establish reference points and ship lines for use by various trades in locating positioning and installing hull parts.
  • Ability to build and install wooden members of heavy structures, such as floats and camels, ladders, scaffolds, platforms, planks, decks, and wooden foundations for marine equipment.
  • Certified to erect Xcel and/or Tube and Clamp staging
  • Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, Chromates and Beryllium - Trained and qualified to work in an environment where heavy metals exist (e.g., lead, arsenic, cadmium, chromates, beryllium), in accordance with OSHA, federal, state, and local standards and requirements for shipyard work.
  • Negative Pressure Respirator - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.134
  • Confined Space Safety - contractor personnel provided must be trained in accordance with 29 CFR 1915 Subpart B
  • Fall Protection -Trained and qualified to use, select, and install conventional and non-conventional fall protection equipment. The contractor shall comply with 29 CFR 1915.159 and the contractor's fall protection plan.
    •MUST be capable of obtaining a fully Adjudicated DoD Clearance. Candidates with a current fully adjudicated DoD Clearance (RED Badge ONLY) will be given priority for hiring. MUST be a US citizen
